Chapter 719 Birthday

Kanae looked at Kevin's room with bewilderment. Why did it seem that the number of papers had increased over the time they spent in hospital?

"This is not paper for the ordinary work anymore," Neo pointed to the stack on the side. "Many of them comes from the companies outside this city that Boss buy not long ago. He's just shareholder in most of them, but there are still some paperwork need to be done."

"Do you really have to print them all?"

"There are a lot of important contract and project. Some of them have to be done manually," Kevin replied. He patted the seat next to him. "Come and help me, Kanae."

"Ok."

"Wait, you two still need a lot of rest. The doctor only allowing you to go back because you say that you'll rest," Neo reminded the two of them. In fact, Kevin threatened the doctor to let them go back. Their wounds were not completely healed yet, so he had to remind them over and over again.

"This is resting," Kanae grinned as she picked up a paper. Her back was comfortably leaned to the back.

Neo rolled his eyes. How could that be called resting? They were clearly doing their work, which was to look over the documents and signed them. Looking at the rate of which these two works, Neo didn't care anymore.

'They're simply monsters.'

The two of them work unimaginably fast. Even though they were wounded, their mind didn't have any problem in working at such fast speed. Their hand also didn't have any problem as they worked on the paper again.

"Have you never gotten bored with the work on paper, Boss?"

Kevin didn't even glance at Neo as he answered. "Have you ever gotten bored with the work on the laptop, Neo?"

Neo was stunned. "That's completely different! I love playing on my laptop with hacking and so on, but it's not like your hobby is to work on paper."

Well, now that he thought about it, it was quite plausible that Kevin has a hobby to work on the paper and document. His life has been filled with nothing but them for years. Not even once did he see Kevin complain about his work.

As if knowing what Neo was thinking, Kevin glared at the man. "It seems your work is too little lately. How about if you go to train with Mike again?"

"Mike is not training, he's inspecting the area," Neo was stunned.

"You should inspect the other area."

Neo: "…" most of them were handled by Patrick. As he was the strongest, the scouting could be done better by him rather than them.

"We won't work too long today," Kanae giggled. "Today is my birthday after all."

"Ah, I almost forgot. Happy birthday, Kanae."

"Thank you!"

Neo smiled slightly before bolting out of the room when he saw Kevin sent him a murderous gaze. Even though he knew that his Boss didn't like to be interrupted, he couldn't help but worry about their health. Fortunately, they shouldn't work too hard with their plan for today.

As Kanae had said, the two of them stopped working right before dinner and didn't continue anymore for the day.

"Are you sure you want to try cooking?" Kanae looked at Kevin with doubtful expression. He told her that he wanted to cook for her on her birthday date, so he has been preparing the kitchen. Seeing the man seemed so eager to cook, Kanae wondered if he could cook properly.

"Yes."

"Can you cook?"

Kevin didn't reply as he took the tray and started moving. Behind him, Kanae was watching his movement with interest. Looking at how Kevin chopped the vegetable, she could see that they were pretty good. But when he came to boil them down, he hesitated for a while.

Half an hour passed before Kevin finished cooking.

"What do you make?"

"I made soup," Kevin replied. He had asked his friends and they told him that the easiest to cook was soup. With his ability in using sharp weapons, he didn't have any problem in cutting the vegetables. The real problem came when he started to boil them as he was unsure how long he should keep at it.

"Let me try it," Kanae stretched her spoon with sparkling eyes.

"Ok."

Kevin readied a bowl for the girl. Kanae tried to eat the broccoli when she found out that it was too soft and the taste… Did he add sugar? She recalled that he did add some spice, but she was unsure about what he actually added.

"How is it?" Kevin asked curiously.

"I think it's good," Kanae replied with a smile on her face. In truth, she was trying hard to swallow the broccoli as it felt weird to eat sweet vegetables.

"Let's eat."

"Can I eat them all?"

Kevin stared at Kanae with bewilderment. He knew that she loved to eat, but the amount of soup he made should be enough for two people. Even though she ate much more than ordinary people, she shouldn't be able to eat this much, right?

Knock! Knock!

"Boss, there's a delivery for you," Neo's head appeared near the door.

"I'll take it."

While Kevin walked out, Kanae took the soup and started eating as fast as possible. Thanks to her habit with the other guys, she was used to eating fast. After all, with four large eaters on the same table, she wouldn't be able to eat if she didn't act fast enough. Within minutes, the soup has been wiped clean.

'Both of us can't cook too well,' Kanae sighed and leaned on the back chair. At the very least, this would make her hesitant whenever Kevin mentioned that he would cook for her. Both of them needed to increase their cooking skill first.

"Kanae, you have eaten them all?" Kevin was stunned to see the empty pot. Only the water was left from them.

"Yep, let's order some food for you."

"I'll ask Neo to do it."

As Kevin didn't have any intention of trying to cook again, Neo called for food delivery. He ate while Kanae was waiting for him, reading a novel that she brought with her.

"Let's change the scenery a bit," Kevin pointed to the back courtyard.

Walking together, they reached the garden slowly. It was already night, so the sky was dark. There was barely any star that they could see from this place. At most, there was only the moon hanging on the sky, shining brightly.

Kevin sat down near the pond followed by Kanae. Resting her head on his shoulder, she enjoyed the warmth from his body.

"Do you think we can enjoy peace like this forever?" Kanae asked quietly.

"I'm not sure."

"Is it because of the country's government?"

"Yes," Kevin replied softly. He was not sure about the country's government's view of this place. From the history that he had read, this country was not too advanced. The large area they had to manage pushed them to give more freedom to the other large city.

As long as they didn't pose any threat and try to overthrow the country's government, there shouldn't be any problem.

But that was only ideally. In truth, he was unsure about how things would continue from this point. But one thing for sure, he would prioritize his own matter too and not only his clan.

"I have something for you," Kevin spoke up.

Kanae sat down properly. "What is it?"

He searched his pocket and took out a small box. He kneeled in front of Kanae with one leg. Opening it, a silver ring entered her view. The blue sapphire on top of it reflected the moonlight.

"This is a bit early," Kevin admitted. "But I have already proposed before. This time, this is my promise to you."

Kanae's eyes shifted back to Kevin. She could see the sincerity reflected in his eyes. Sapphire is the symbolism of honesty, purity, and trust. He wanted to be honest with his feeling for her and trusted her completely.

Even though they had shared their experience and life from a long time ago, there were still many things that they didn't know about each other.

"Yeah, it's early," Kanae replied with a warm smile on her face. "But I accept it. I wish to stay with you forever."

Kevin's eyes shook with excitement. His hand trembled slightly as he raised Kanae's left hand tenderly as if it was made of glass. Pushing the ring into her ring finger, he smiled slightly.

His mind was thinking about their meeting and experience so far. There were a lot of things that had happened, and they were all his time with her that he treasured so much. They had gone through a lot of things, be it pain, suffering, happiness, joy, so many things had happened.

There will be different challenges in the future and this time, they will face it together.

For their entire lifetime.

Kanae could feel that Kevin was staring at her. She smiled slightly and leaned closer while her hand was placed on top of Kevin's shoulder, pulling him closer to her. He put his hand behind her head as he locked her lips with his own.
